The new Scottish Enterprise chairman Crawford Gillies has visited television production company Shed Media Scotland as part of a tour of the Digital Media Quarter (DMQ) on Glasgow’s Pacific Quay.

Shed Media Scotland, part of the Shed Media Group, the makers of hit TV programmes such as Waterloo Road, New Tricks, Supernanny, The Choir and Who Do You Think You Are, is located at The Hub, which is set to become one of Glasgow waterfront’s most iconic buildings and is tailored to meet the needs of digital media businesses.

The aim of the DMQ, developed by Scottish Enterprise, is to provide a highly distinctive and dedicated business location for Scotland’s digital media and related industries, providing a physical focus for these activities in the city and the site.

It extends to around five hectares, forming part of the wider Pacific Quay area, which is home to BBC Scotland, Scottish Media Group, XFM Scotland, Film City Glasgow, Glasgow School of Art’s Digital Design Studio and Glasgow Science Centre. The Digital Media and Creative Industries in Scotland account for around £2.8 billion in economic terms and employs an estimated 100,000 people.

Speaking after the visit Crawford Gillies said: “The Digital Media Quarter has real potential to help boost Scotland's digital media sector and I'm very impressed by the facilities on offer and the work of companies based here.

“The project is obviously hugely significant for both Glasgow and, indeed Scotland as a whole. I know that we are working hard to ensure the Digital Media Quarter will act as a magnet for both professionals working in the creative industries and global companies looking to invest in Scotland."

Margaret Scott, Scottish operations director of Shed Media Scotland: said: “The Digital Media Quarter is a perfect location for us. We are next door to our major customers at BBC Scotland and as part of The Hub we are neighbours to the brightest digital innovators in the UK. Our plan is to produce many leading programme brands from Scotland and to develop creative digital content around them for UK and international audiences.

“We are very grateful for the support and encouragement given to us by Scottish Enterprise and Glasgow City Council.”

Crawford Gillies’s visit to the DMQ also included a tour of the BBC building where he was accompanied by Bruce Malcolm, chief operating officer of BBC Scotland.
